Upstream activities and development in Kenya
We operate in the country in the exploration and production sector, but we support these activities with local development.
In particular, in December, our CEO Claudio Descalzi flew to Nairobi to discuss new green initiatives and access to energy with the President of the Republic Uhuru Kenyatta.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals for people, planet and prosperity, as set out in 2015 in the UN’s 2030 Agenda, are an indispensable point of reference for the whole international community. We have also set targets to achieve within the ambit of each goal, in our 2020–2023 Action Plan and our Long-Term Strategic Plan for 2050. The percentages indicate achievement of the targets worldwide, as given in the SDG index and dashboards in the 2019 Sustainable Development Report.
Our cooperation model is an integral part of our company culture. We operate worldwide and always in collaboration with our host countries, liaising with institutions and local communities.

Strengthening our traditional business while building new ones, such as renewables, and supporting the circular economy are vital to a clear, low-carbon strategy that will benefit the whole country.
Thanks to recent agreements on exploration and refining, our presence in UAE is becoming broader and broader, driven by the scale of the Ruwais and Ghasha projects and the partnership with ADNOC.
